Methods of easily creating Screen Shots using Windows Vista

What is a Screen Shot?

A screen shot is merely a image that shows the picture of whatever is showing on your Computer Monitor at the time the Screen Shot was taken. Screen shots might be used when giving presentations, or showing someone such as Technical Support the errors or problems you might be having with your Computer. There are so many other uses for Screen Shots as you can imagine! To some people, creating these Screen Shots is really a lot easier than it seems. If you're using the Windows Vista Operating System, then you can follow the simple directions below to learn how to quickly create Screen Shots all on your own.

There are many programs out there that offer to assist you in creating Screen Shots. Most of these programs are just designed to take peoples money who may not be aware of just how easy it is to create them. Stay away from these types of programs and follow the simple instructions below:

Step 1.) Click on your Windows Vista [Start Menu] in the lower left hand corner of your screen. In the [Search] box in this menu, type in the following text: Snipping Tool Then, click on [OK] or just hit the [Enter] key on your keyboard to bring up the Snipping Tool. The Snipping Tool utility program should now be open on you're computer.

Step 2.) (Optional Step) We can make the 'Snipping Tool' program more easily accessible for future use by placing a shortcut into your 'Quick Launch' tool bar. To do this, click on the [Options] tab that you see in the tiny Snipping Tool box that's open. Once the options are displayed, you'll then see a check box that says something along the lines of "Display icon in the Quick Launch Toolbar". Go ahead and enable to click on the check box next to this option if you would like the Snipping Tool to show up in your Quick Launch toolbar for now on.

Step 3.) To take a Screen Shot, open the Snipping Tool from you're Quick Launch Toolbar, or by opening it through the Windows Start Menu -> Search feature. Once it's open, you're mouse cursor will then turn into a CROSS type looking icon. Maneuver this cross icon to select the area of your monitor or screen that you want to take a screen shot of. If you want the entire screen to show, then highlight or select the entire screen by dragging the mouse.

Step 4.) Now that you have selected the area you want to be shown in you're new Screen Shot, you'll notice a pop up window shows up displaying the area you selected for your image. In this window, click on the tab at the upper left that says [File]. Then click on [Save As]. In this menu, your going to give your screen shot image file a name, and then in the Save As Type drop down menu below, you're going to want to select a JPEG or GIF file type. Do not save the file as a .BMP. Otherwise, The file will be too large for any kind of Internet, Email, or Website use. There are really no benefits that you would notice from choosing a .BMP file type anyways, so just don't do it! You can save the image where ever you want.

If your not sure what happened or how it works still, I urge you to repeat the process until you have a full understanding of what's happening. This will give you some practice and you can always just delete the one's you don't want from you're computer anyways.
